Playback’s 10 to Watch

Canuck talent just canít be held back, even in the face of declining ad revenue for domestic broadcasters and a tough international market for indie feature film. Despite these obstacles, a number of Canadian actors, directors, writers and producers are taking their careers to a whole new level in 2009.

Playbackís editorial staff had the thorny task of selecting 10 individuals who, based on recent or upcoming projects, have made the industry take notice this year – and, in some cases, they sit on the brink of stardom. While many worthy candidates nominated by Playback readers didnít make the final cut, it would be hard to dispute the level of accomplishment of those who did.

From producers who have shown rare gumption in getting projects off the ground to the star of one of this fallís Hollywood buzz series to the toast of the Cannes Film Festival, these individuals are part of a Canadian film and television talent pool that seems stronger than ever.
