Family Channel Canada has greenlit the teen sitcom What's Up, Warthogs! from indie producer Aircraft Pictures.
The network has also handed out new teen series orders to Cookie Jar Entertainment for Decidedly Debra and Fresh TV for Really Me.
Family Channel Canada commissioned 100 five-minute episodes of Warthogs! following a pilot being shot last spring for the multi-camera comedy about a group of awkward teens created and scripted by Julie Sagalowsky and Alex Diaz.
Family Channel will air the short-form episodes on Family.ca before debuting the series, which stars Dean Batali, on its main network.
Bill O'Dowd of Dolphin Entertainment is executive producing Warthogs!
Cookie Jar will also produce 13 half hours of Decidedly Debra, a live action comedy from the traditional Canadian cartoon factory that came from the veteran Los Angeles comedy writing team of Andrew Nicholls and Darrell Vickers.
The series follows Debra Delong, an effervescent teen determined to start her own business, with her reluctant best friend tagging along for the adventure.
And Fresh TV is to produce 13 half-hours of Really Me, a series about best friends overwhelmed by their reality TV show.
The series was created by Tom McGillis and Jennifer Pertsch.
The Family Channel Canada series orders also enable Michael Goldsmith to put his creative stamp on the pay TV service after he last year moved from being director of original content at Teletoon to becoming director of original programming at Family Channel and Playhouse Disney Canada.
