The Canadian Media Producers Association – BC Producers Branch is a non-profit trade organization that works on behalf of over 85 British Columbia companies engaged in the production and distribution of television, feature film, and digital media content. It promotes the general interests of its members with all levels of government and industry stakeholders; negotiates and manages labour agreements with guilds and unions; and undertakes a variety of business and export development initiatives to build the capacity of BC based production companies.

We are currently looking to fill the position of Vice-President, Industrial Relations on our team in downtown Vancouver. Reporting to the Managing Vice President, Operations and Member Services, the ideal candidate will be an experienced Labour Relations Professional. The duties of this diverse role include:

· Act as lead negotiator in collective bargaining on behalf of the BC Branch Council;
· Co-ordinate and organize all BC member inquiries, grievances, and arbitrations;
Function as member production resource with regards to Collective Agreement interpretation and production practices;
· Assist members, if requested, in the preparation of grievances for arbitration and attend arbitrations for the purpose of providing support;
· Communicate and dialogue with unions on issues at the grievance and arbitration stage;
· Conduct regular meetings with the various unions informally and pursuant to the Consultation Committee process in the collective agreement in an effort to maintain viable working relationships;
· Update and meet with BC Industrial Relations Committee and report to BC Branch Council;
Other issues as they arise from bargaining, health plans, government meetings (labour, employment standards, safety, etc.);
· Communicate regularly with production community on issues from a producers perspective;
· Conduct regular production manager roundtables along with AMPTP to inform community regarding issues of note and concern;
· Liaise regularly with the AMPTP generally and individual companies regarding joint IR strategies on matters of mutual concern and interest;
· Engage, manage and instruct external legal counsel as deemed necessary;
· When advisable, assist with legal proceedings or mediations involving broader film and TV labour relations;
· Assist with the preparation and filing of submissions on behalf of the CMPA-BC as required/requested by the IR committee or Branch · Council on IR matters;
· Provide functional supervision for staff working in Industrial Relations area;
· Liaise with National CMPA Industrial Relations Staff and assist with activities, as required; and
· Carry out other duties as may be required from time to time and in keeping with the level of the position.

Education & Experience

· Minimum of ten years’ experience in Labour Relations, or an equivalent combination of production and labour relations experience;

· A legal, human resources, labour relations or business degree from a recognized university or college, or equivalent professional experience;

· Extensive industry relationships with stakeholders in the production and related screen based industries;

· Experience overseeing member services would be considered a definite asset; and

· Relevant film, television and/or new media production industry knowledge.

Skills & Capabilities

· Superior interpersonal, written and oral communication skills;

· Exemplary leadership skills and proven history of working in a collaborative environment ;

· Previous experience managing staff would be considered an asset;

· Able to build and maintain positive and effective working relationships with internal and external parties including senior players in the industry;

· Ability to exercise good judgment, show initiative and be proactive;

· Proven ability to effectively prioritize and manage work flow;

· Strong PC skills ie Word, Excel, Power Point and MS Outlook;

· Be willing and able to travel, and possess a valid drivers’ license; and

· Industry experience considered a definite asset.
